CSESE 2024 Distinguished Service Award
The 2024 CSESE Outstanding Service Award committee is pleased to recognize Professor Teketel Yohannes Anshebo, the Chief Executive Director of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS), for his exceptional dedication and contributions to the advancement of computational science careers in Ethiopia and across Africa.
With a distinguished academic background, Professor Teketel obtained his BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees from Addis Ababa University between 1984 and 1997. He has since served at various higher education institutions in Ethiopia, showcasing extensive experience in academic leadership and management, including roles as Department Chair, Director of the Materials Science Program, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, Director of Research, and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
As a prolific researcher, Professor Teketel has supervised numerous PhD and master's students, and has published over 60 scientific articles in reputable journals. His research interests span electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry, photovoltaics, and photoelectrochemistry of organic conducting polymer materials. He has collaborated with prominent scientists globally and secured several research grants. Professor Teketel's commitment to organizing major international conferences and workshops in Ethiopia, in collaboration with organizations such as, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), JUAMI – Joint Undertaking for an African Materials Institute, African materials research society (AMRS), and African School on Electronic Structure Methods and Applications (ASESMA), has been instrumental in fostering the growth of computational science and engineering in the region. These events have focused on topics like nanoscience for solar energy, materials research, and computational tools applications.
Additionally, Professor Teketel has held prestigious fellowships and associations, including being, a Junior and Regular Associate at ICTP, an Associate Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and a Fellow of the EAS.
The committee is honored to recognize Professor Teketel Yohanes Anshebo's exceptional contributions and unwavering commitment to the advancement of computational science and engineering in Ethiopia and the region. As the recipient of the 2024 CSESE Outstanding Service Award, his achievements and leadership serve as an inspiration to the computational science community.
